From our friends at Florida Citizens Alliance...

Contact Florida Speaker Sprowls and Senate President Simpson: Schedule HB 1305 and SB 1482 for a Fair Hearing

Florida Citizens Alliance this week sent an open letter to Florida Speaker Sprowls and Senate President Wilton Simpson asking for HB 1305 and companion SB 1482. Manatee Patriots is one of dozens of groups who have added their name in support of FCLs open letter. Please contact Sprowls and Simpson too.

Here is a short message you can use:

To Speaker Sprowls and President Simpson:
(This week) in the legislature: Courageous Representative Borrero with full support of Vice Chair McClain has filed HB 1305 “Harmful for Minors” and Senator Baxley has filed SB 1842, a comparable bill “Reproductive Health and Disease Education.”

So far in both chambers, you have refused to allow these bills to be scheduled for a fair hearing. … the only way forward for you to protect our children from these HarmfulMaterials is for you to provide the leadership to either include (them) in respective committee bills or attach to a relevant bill that is moving.

Please contact Simpson and Sprowls now:

Call Senate President Wilton Simpson [R]  850-487-5010

Email: simpson.wilton.web@flsenate.gov

Call House Speaker Chris Sprowls (850) 717-5065

Email: Chris.Sprowls@myfloridahouse.gov

Steve Vernon Bio

Steve Vernon serves as the chairman of the Manatee County Republican Party.

Until recently Steve served as president of the Lakewood Ranch Republican Club, and in 2016 nearly defeated Joe Gruters for the Republican nomination for the Florida House District 73 seat, which represents parts of both Sarasota and Manatee counties.

He also served as president of Tea Party Manatee and was active in the group for several years.

For his career, he worked in banking, including serving six years as a Section Chief for the Federal Deposit Insurance Company (FDIC), negotiating assets from failed banks. Later Steve was a contracts negotiator with IBM.

Steve served in the US Marine Corps from 1965-1967. He got his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois, Chicago, and holds a Masters of Business Administration from DePaul University in Chicago.

Born in Chicago, Steve retired in 2000 to Lakewood Ranch. He recently suffered the loss of his beloved wife, Alicia, an ardent political and community activist.

Hear Martin Hyde on the Justin American Radio Hour Wednesday, February 16

Don't miss the "thinking person's" conservative talk radio show, the Justin American Radio Hour. The show airs on AM 1490 Bradenton every Wednesday evening, from 8:05-9 pm Eastern time. You can also listen online at https://1490wwpr.com/listen-online-streaming/ and watch on Facebook Live, https://www.facebook.com/IamJustinAmerican/

For this upcoming show on Wednesday, February 16th, I welcome Martin Hyde (R), Congressional Candidate FL D-16. Martin provides a solid conservative alternative to Vern Buchanan for those who "have some issues" with Buchanan's suspect conservative voting record. He and I will have a good discussion about why he is the better choice for "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Keep on supporting small businesses, and we'll see you on the airwaves!

St. Valentine's Day Zoom Meeting on Increasing Voter Participation

Get the facts.  What motivates voters, what presents barriers?    To Register Click Here

For the nation’s democracy to function properly and for government to provide fair representation, all eligible Americans must have the opportunity to vote—and be encouraged to do so. How can we improve voter participation? There is no silver bullet, but employing a variety of strategies can improve participation.  Join this program and learn what motivates voting and what can be done to increase voter participation.  Our speakers are:

  • Carolyn Sheets, Voter Services Chair of LWVMC - Carolyn will be covering voter participation in Manatee County looking at it from a variety of factors.  Statistics would include: midterm vs presidential vs primary, age and  party affiliation. How do we compare with the state or nationally? What are our strengths and weaknesses?
  • Frank Alcock, Professor of Political Science, New College.  Frank will inform us on pro-voter policies and practices that America can use to improve participation by voters.  Also, what civic engagement tools will encourage voting.  What works and what does not?  Frank is always an informed and an engaging speaker.
  • Rev. James T. Golden, Chairman of Manatee District School Board - Reverend Golden will speak about the legislation the school board spearheaded to include voter education in civics classes as well as other efforts of the school district to prepare our graduates to be informed voters and engaged citizens.

Now more than ever, Conservatives need to be organized and informed.  There still remains a number of Manatee Patriots subscribers missing vital information. So we are providing a link so that you can update your information in order for us to keep you informed on important issues, meetings, and events.  To do so, simply click this link.
